Whole Lotta Helter Skelter - Beatles / Led Zeppelin

*edit 30/03/2014* It took over two years, but some miserable fuck at Universal Music Group finally took it upon himself to have this track removed from Soundcloud.  Not the end of the world, but annoying.  The video's still up at the moment, and a 320k mp3 can be downloaded from this link here... Makes you pine for the the good old days of EMI, eh?  And I notice there's been no online outcry over this, not even an solitary email of condolence... perhaps only people into shitty tedious over-hyped 'hip hop m@$hups' do that sort of thing?  Anyway, I'm not bitter or anything...*cough*

So after saying I don't 'do bootlegs' anymore, I gone and done another one.  I'm not setting out to make a habit of this, it's just that some nice source material came my way and I had a couple of evenings to kill. I don't think I need to say much else about this, really... it's all in the title and the artwork. Suffice to say, I'm of the opinion that if anyone else had attempted this, it would have been a disaster.  As it is, I think it's come out pretty jolly well.

Could this be the one which finally gets me appreciated and blogged about with 25,000 plays and a mention in Uncut/Mojo/Old Fart Rocker Monthly and all that sort of stuff, after 10 long years of trying?  Yeah, dream on...  Anyway, find a decent stereo system to play this on, and turn the volume control up all the bloody way.  Please let me know in some way if it tickles your rock buds.

I don't mind at all - keeps the YT crowd happy until I manage to finish a 'proper' video for it, which is taking some time! Thanks!

Incredible. Great job! I'm so glad the Beatle stems are being put to good use. Now only if we had some Zep stems...

Ah, the mighty arms of Atlas, music lovers! If only Fluff had lived to hear this. Magnificent!
PS John Holmes put this out on 6Music on Saturday afternoon - return to your decks and prepare to be slightly notorious.

As I started my truck to leave work at 2 this morning, this song started. I was entranced. Thank you for what you do and thank you to KUT and Rick Daddy in Austin, Texas for sharing this with the world.

I found out about this via a Rob Michael share on Google+. The songs work well together, and are more similar than they would initially appear.

Love it! and I detest most mashups. This was amazing. Did justice to both songs. Bonham drumming for the Beatles!

Love it - been listening to your work since about 2004, gets my vote as one of the best (albeit not the most complex) tracks.

Outstanding piece of musical art! Best mashup I've heard ever! Keep doing what you do so well!

Love it! Even though I hate mashups! Maybe, the best mash-up ever!

Heard this on Sirius this weekend. Found out it was you, of long-ago Boom Selection days! This mix is so on point, not a single missed opportunity. Well done, thank you!

Someone posted this to FB, where I first listened to it. Congratulations on a brilliant mashup and thank you for sharing this with us. Well done!

Fantastic, thank you. Incidentally McCartney wrote Helter Skelter in response to the Who's I Can See for Miles - how about a Who/R.E.M mashup? Just a thought... but in the meantime, thanks so much I've played this several times :-)
Anyone else think that Springsteen ripped off the Beach Boys Wild Honey for We Take Care of Our Own?

As far as the online outcry about SoundCloud deleting songs:
I've given up on them. All i uploaded has been "disabled". Where's freedom of remixing? Where's fair use?

I did not visit your site for a while but THIS has to be the most amazing mashup EVER! Add your "Barleycorn - Ramble On" to this as well. Awesome!

As someone else stated on SC: keep on keeping ... please!

Your's truly DJ KenBaxter

This is fucking brilliant. Thanks for taking the time to make this. The world owes you more gratitude. :)

I'm not even a Zeppelin fan, but this riff kicks the bejesus out of Helter Skelter — in a good way, I mean. Fricking brilliant work.

ben_sH said...

Thanks folks! Sorry for not replying to all this earlier. My fault. As far as Soundcloud goes, the problem is they've basically given Universal (and probably some others) a spare set of keys to the place, so stuff's getting automatically deleted all over the place. On the flipside, you've got YouTube actually automatically *creating* it's own "Topic" videos from mp3 files, and nobody's getting paid for those. It's all gone very strange out there...

I know I'm a bit late but WOW, simply put, WOW. This straight up one of the best rock tracks I've ever heard. You produced this like they would have, genius. I admire the integrity, vision, and musical sense you've got. I'd like to think that somewhere John and George are digging this jam.

Soundhog, you wouldn't happen to have the original video available, would you? Or at least a better quality copy of the video you uploaded to Youtube? I miss it.
